Some people keep diaries, others make photo collages and many
wear bracelets full of mementos in silver charms. These people have in
common their celebrated memories and achievements throughout their lives
preserved in different ways. The best thing about having a charm bracelet is
that you can take your mementos and favourite charms with you wherever you go
and look stylish doing so! Charm bracelets are very personal but they make a
great conversation starters, each charm has its own story or meaning and people
always want to know which ones carry certain meanings and why. That’s not today
you can’t wear a charm without it having a meaning or because you love the look
of them because that’s totally fine too, but essentially charm bracelets are
not just about fashion. It’s very common for a mother or grandmother to gift a
teenage daughter or granddaughter with a beautiful charm bracelet with just a
few charms to get started, or to be passed down a charm bracelet filled by
previous generations.
Either way she can add her precious moments in life to her
bracelet and keep growing it throughout her life to represent the most
important parts of her life, what a wonderful gift to give someone. Because
these bracelets do last for so long, it’s important to buy quality silver
charms to fill them with, as silver or gold plated charms will wear down to the
base metal eventually and will look cheap and unsightly within a matter of
weeks or months. After this plating wears off, these charm bracelets usually
become part of the junk jewellery drawer and often never see the light of day
again, hardly a good choice if intended to carry a lifetime of memories. Good
quality charms don’t have to break the bank and over time the money you spend
on a charm bracelet of quality won’t even be taken into account. When you’re
wearing your bracelet in the future and it still sparkles as it did the day you
bought it or when you’re passing your bracelet down to another little lady in
the family you’ll be grateful that you purchased high quality silver that lasts
and lasts.
Charm have “jump rings” that join the charms to the links in the
bracelet, these must be soldered shut by a jeweller or the potential for the
jump ring to bend open under little pressure could mean the last of that charm.
It’s a relatively cheap process to solder your charm jump rings and it’s worth
every penny when you consider losing one of your beautiful charms to save a few
dollars. There is an alternative to soldering rings by using Australian made link-locks, these don’t have to be soldered but can be squeezed closed by
a pair of pliers which when closed are just as secure as jump rings.
