Gold Necklaces & Solid Gold Chains | Gold Bracelets | Fraser Ross

Shopping for a gold necklace can indeed be intimidating with all the different styles, widths lengths and colour choices it can be supremely difficult choosing which one is right for you. When purchasing for yourself, take into consideration how you will wear the necklace, will it have a pendant? What outfits will you be wearing it with most? What colour do you like against your skin? The length will affect where the chain sits on your chest, for example: a 45cm chain will sit quite high on a lady’s chest and will normally be too short for a man. The larger your build, the longer your chain will need to be; if you have athletic shoulder and neck muscles you may need to tack on a few centimetres to your chain so it sits where you would like. Men’s gold chains will often be around 55cm so they don’t sit too high around the neck, a larger man may need a 60-65cm chain to flatter their build. Men usually opt for a heavier and thicker chain as the finer, more delicate chains can look feminine on masculine builds. We will usually advise men to purchase chains of 5mm or greater widths, the exception to this is when a pendant will be required and so the chain should be selected to suit the pendant.

Most gold chains can be found in rose gold, yellow gold and white gold, thought the most common is definitely yellow gold. Yellow gold is very popular among men but men who have previously owned silver jewellery are likely to choose a white gold necklace. Throughout the early 1900’s Rose gold was extremely popular and is now making a comeback due to its warm colour and antique feel. We feature a large range of gold necklaces that can be made in a single solid shade of gold or a combination of any two or three colours of rose, yellow and white gold. Our fancy link chains can be customised by colour, length and width, which means you can create your own unique chain that no one else will have. A good way to find out what length, colour and width you like best is to visit a jeweller and try on the ones that appeal to you most.

Don’t be afraid to ask the shop assistant to measure the length and width of the chain so you can price compare like for like on our website. We show as much information in our store as we can to help you make a fair comparison with the jewellery you see in the retail stores.

We offer the largest choice at Fraser Ross by having all of our necklaces and bracelets being able to be made to the exact length you want, in any or all shades of solid gold.

Sterling Silver Charms & Link Locks - Fraser Ross Jewellers

Some people keep diaries, others make photo collages and many wear bracelets full of mementos in silver charms. These people have in common their celebrated memories and achievements throughout their lives preserved in different ways. The best thing about having a charm bracelet is that you can take your mementos and favourite charms with you wherever you go and look stylish doing so! Charm bracelets are very personal but they make a great conversation starters, each charm has its own story or meaning and people always want to know which ones carry certain meanings and why. That’s not today you can’t wear a charm without it having a meaning or because you love the look of them because that’s totally fine too, but essentially charm bracelets are not just about fashion. It’s very common for a mother or grandmother to gift a teenage daughter or granddaughter with a beautiful charm bracelet with just a few charms to get started, or to be passed down a charm bracelet filled by previous generations.

Either way she can add her precious moments in life to her bracelet and keep growing it throughout her life to represent the most important parts of her life, what a wonderful gift to give someone. Because these bracelets do last for so long, it’s important to buy quality silver charms to fill them with, as silver or gold plated charms will wear down to the base metal eventually and will look cheap and unsightly within a matter of weeks or months. After this plating wears off, these charm bracelets usually become part of the junk jewellery drawer and often never see the light of day again, hardly a good choice if intended to carry a lifetime of memories. Good quality charms don’t have to break the bank and over time the money you spend on a charm bracelet of quality won’t even be taken into account. When you’re wearing your bracelet in the future and it still sparkles as it did the day you bought it or when you’re passing your bracelet down to another little lady in the family you’ll be grateful that you purchased high quality silver that lasts and lasts.

Charm have “jump rings” that join the charms to the links in the bracelet, these must be soldered shut by a jeweller or the potential for the jump ring to bend open under little pressure could mean the last of that charm. It’s a relatively cheap process to solder your charm jump rings and it’s worth every penny when you consider losing one of your beautiful charms to save a few dollars. There is an alternative to soldering rings by using Australian made link-locks, these don’t have to be soldered but can be squeezed closed by a pair of pliers which when closed are just as secure as jump rings.
