How to make a necklace - Gold Chain

Hi guys it's Cameron Kay here and today I’m going to show you this Victorian-inspired look which includes a cameo on a gold necklace chain. I’m also going to demonstrate this fun and funky necklace which was anthropology inspired which is a little elephant on a gold chain, as well, you can do both these looks in the same lesson and they're fun easy and they look great.

I’ll see you there. Okay, so this is the necklace that we're going to duplicate. We have from anthropology and it was a gift to me and I thought it was so adorable, I wanted to make one as well. It's a jade butterfly, with the painted little bead on a gold chain. What I'm going to do is I'm going to do one with an elephant, so you need one pendant with the holes on both sides.

So just make sure that that's what you get when you buy the pendant, make sure that it does have a hole on both sides. I'm going to use a wood bead and a green Swarovski crystal, obviously you can use any beads, any colours. I'm going to use a 22 inch chain very similar to this one, obviously I need a clasp so I'm going to do a clasp and a little jump ring and I'm also going to use a head pin to go through the elephant. The head pin needs to be, for this pendant two inches long, just make sure that you measure it for whatever you're going to be doing.

Also you're going to need flat nosed pliers, round nose pliers and possibly a pair of scissors because you never know if you need to cut the head pin. So what we're going to do is we're going to start with the elephant pendant and we're going to take the pendant and we're going to stick the eye pin through the bottom, like so, is a little fool and like I said I’m going to do a little decoration.
So I’m going to use the wood bead and the Swarovski crystal and I'm going to go ahead and cut it a little bit because it's too long, I have some excess and you want to leave enough to make a nice hoop, so I'm going to cut it about here. You can see that, and what you're going to do is you're going to take your head note your flat nose pliers, you're going to put it to a 90 degree angle like so, then I'm going to take the round nose pliers and I'm going to bend it around like this, to make a loop and if any of you guys have had any type of wire wrapping experience or anything like that you'll be very familiar with this process.

So that's how you make the loop, now we've got our pendant, now what I'm going to do is I'm going to take the chain and I'm going to put the jump ring onto the gold chain and connect the clasp so it's ready to go. I like to use two pairs of flat nose pliers and it's not soldered so I'm going to kind of open it up, put it on one side, of the chain so I'm going to connect one side here.

Cool I'm sorry if you can't see this, it's so tiny, it's kind of hard to demonstrate but if you can, I’ve got now if you don't bring connected and I'm going to put it back together like so. Sometimes it's easy to do it with your fingers as well, okay and then I'm going to take this off, do it to the other side as well. Connect to this, this hoop actually came with the jump ring attached, so I'm just going to open it up and attach it here. You're just going to stick it through, just like with the other jump ring, like so and then you're going to close it up with the two pairs of flat nosed pliers or with this one I may just need one pair, depends.

So now I have my chain what you can do is you can either put the pendant on the chain like this, what I'm going to do is I'm going to open it at the top here and clasp it on that way. So I'm just going to open this little hoop that I made earlier, like so, I'm going to pop it through the middle like that and then I'm just going to close it up. Voila, there you go, you have your little elephant on a gold chain.

Ok so I wanted to show you another quick fun necklace to make with a gold chain. It takes about two minutes, all you need to do is find the pendant that you're going to use. I'm going to show you some cameos today and all you need to do is find a pendant. It can be a pin, these are pins on the back, I prefer this turquoise one because it actually has a little area where can be a pin or a necklace and this is the gold chain that I just used for the elephant necklace but you could use any gold chain with the clasp and are you ready for this? This is as simple as it is you just take the pendant pop it on to the chain like so, voila, now you have a beautiful cameo retro necklace on a gold chain. So I just wanted to show you that additional necklace that you could make on a gold chain. You can actually swap out any pendant or any pin to make a new necklace.
